At least, that is the headline in an Iranian newspaper today. Apparently, Iran is not overly happy about the new film, 300, which depicts the heroic resistance of 300 Spartan soldiers, and 700 Thespian allies, against a Persian army several hundred thousand strong, at the Battle of Thermopylae.
Iran's government apparently believes that the film is part of a campaign of psychological warfare waged by Hollywood against Iran, on behalf of the US government. Because we all know how right-wing Hollywood is, don't we?
Iran previously threw a tantrum over the 2004 film Alexander (made by that well known far-rightist, Oliver Stone), because it depicted Alexander the Great's comparatively easy conquest of the Persian empire. Sadly for the Iranians, 300 looks set to become one of the most successful films in recent history, having already broken a number of box office records.
